We place great importance on technology and controls and operate in a SOC1 Type II compliant control environment. The company employs a fully integrated technology platform which includes, fund accounting, portfolio accounting and investor services together with a real time 24/7 online platform for clients and investors.

History

Formed in 2005 by seasoned insurance and reinsurance professionals with extensive industry experience, we are not affiliated with any other service provider or insurance carrier and act impartially and without conflict of interest in advising our clients.

Through the acquisition of IKONIC Fund Services Ltd. In 2016, we formed Horseshoe Fund Services Ltd. (“HFS”), a Bermuda-based exempted company licensed as a fund administrator by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. HFS is dedicated to providing hedge fund and private equity administration outsourcing solutions to a wide range of global investment managers adopting a diverse range of investment styles. Our fund services product offering specializes in hedge funds, fund of hedge funds, private equity funds and funds investing in insurance-linked securities. Senior Management Team

Current Responsibilities

Andre is the founder of Horseshoe Group. He is in charge of the Group’s operations as well as responsible for the development of the insurance management and consulting activities. In addition, Andre has oversight of the Group’s transformer, Horseshoe Re Limited.

Horseshoe Group, the leading provider of insurance management and advisory services for Insurance-Linked Securities, was awarded the 2010 ‘Adviser of the Year’ and the 2013 ‘Market Facilitator of the Year’ by Trading Risk magazine. These awards recognizes excellence and achievement in the insurance-linked capital markets sector and is given to the company that has done the most to foster innovation and further the development of the Insurance-Linked Securities market.

Experience

Andre has over 25 years of experience in insurance, reinsurance and alternative risk transfer. He has a demonstrated track record and expertise in:

Andre was named by Reactions Magazine (December 2005) as one of the Rising Stars in Insurance.

Prior to setting up Horseshoe Group, he held various positions in both insurance company operations and consulting.

Andre was Head of Office and a Director of Alea Bermuda Ltd. His roles and responsibilities included the following:

  • Responsible for setting up and managing an underwriting operation, with emphasis on structured business for several lines including Auto, Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Property and Aviation.
  • Successfully developed a unique reinsurance product to address collateral issues for captives.
  • As an executive of Alea Group, Andre was a member of the Executive Team as well as of the Underwriting and the Reinsurance Security committees.
  • In charge of intra-group reinsurance placements for the Group.

Prior to Alea, Andre was Senior Vice President with Overseas Partners Ltd. in Bermuda. During that time, he had the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Co-created Overseas Partners Cat Ltd., a property catastrophe reinsurance joint venture with Renaissance Re, and managed OPCat day-to-day operations.
  • In charge of a reinsurance portfolio of Structured Risk, Aviation and Space.
  • As Chief Actuary, responsibilities included the management of the actuarial team with oversight of pricing and reserving for all lines of business as well as capital management.
  • Responsible for management and placement of OPL’s outward and intra-group reinsurance programs.
  • Participated and led several due diligence projects for prospective acquisitions
  • Member of the Underwriting Approval Committee

Before OPL, Andre was at KPMG Bermuda where he was heading up the Actuarial Consulting Practice. Prior to that, he held various positions in the industry as a consulting actuary for Coopers & Lybrand Canada, Chief Pricing Actuary for Zurich Canada as well as other actuarial positions.

Nigel is responsible for the Group’s insurance management division, Horseshoe Management Ltd.

Experience

Nigel has over 25 years of experience in the Bermuda insurance and reinsurance industry, including audit, reinsurance company administration and captive management. He has a demonstrated track record and expertise in:

Prior to joining Horseshoe Group, he held various positions in both captive management and reinsurance company operations.

Nigel was most recently Treasurer, Corporate Secretary and Principal Representative of Select Reinsurance Ltd. in Bermuda where his duties included the following:

  • Negotiation of commutation agreements

Prior to that, Nigel was Chief Financial Officer and a director and Principal Representative of Scandinavian Reinsurance Company Ltd. in Bermuda, prior to its acquisition by White Mountains Group. His duties there included:

  • Contract review and commutation negotiation
  • Management of Company’s LOC facilities
  • Investment management
  • Corporate administration, including IT, Human Resources and property management
  • Sarbanes-Oxley compliance implementation

Before joining Scandinavian Re, Nigel was a Senior Vice President and director of Sedgwick Management Services (Bermuda) Limited, the Sedgwick Group’s captive management and broking operation in Bermuda, prior to its acquisition by Marsh. His duties at Sedgwick included:

  • Oversight of day to day operations of captive management department
  • Internal & external financial reporting and budgeting

Nigel moved to Bermuda in 1982, joining the international audit firm of Coopers & Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was an audit manager with responsibility for the audit of many captive insurance companies. He left C&L to serve as the Finance Director of a local information technology retailer, before rejoining the international business sector when he moved to Sedgwick.

Current Responsibilities

Brent is the Chief Operating Officer of Horseshoe Group. He is responsible for leading the global business operations of the Horseshoe Group and focus on brand strength, day to day operations, business development, and client service delivery.

Brent has over 15 years of experience in reinsurance, capital markets, and alternative risk transfer. He has a demonstrated track record and expertise in:

Between 2005 and 2013 Brent was a member of the executive committee and Chief Marketing and Capital Markets Officer for Flagstone Reinsurance, responsible for capital market initiatives including capital structure transactions, and ILS, cat bond, and sidecar businesses, as well as investor relations and firm-wide marketing. Brent was a founding member of Flagstone and assisted in the formation and financing of the company from start-up through IPO and ultimate sale to Validus Re.

Prior to Flagstone, Brent was an Executive Vice President and Principal of West End Capital Management, a fixed income arbitrage hedge fund and institutional fixed income investment manager. Notably during his time at West End, Brent assisted in the creation, management, and formation of multiple new products including Rockridge Reinsurance, a pioneering sidecar/ILS vehicle combining fixed income arbitrage asset management with reinsurance risk. Brent was previously a Director of West End Capital Management Limited, Mont Fort Reinsurance, Mont Gele Reinsurance, and Longtail Aviation.

Edith G. Conyers (Ede) was one of the principal founders, a director and formerly Chief Executive Officer of IKONIC Fund Services Ltd. (IFSL), now Horseshoe Fund Services, a specialist fund administration company, established and licensed in Bermuda in 2007.

Until May 2007, Ede was General Manager of Citigroup Fund Services (Bermuda) Ltd. (formerly Forum Fund Services Ltd.) and was an integral part of establishing that company in September 1997 with assets under administration growing to approximately $30 billion. Prior to setting up Citigroup Bermuda, Ede held the position of General Manager of International Corporate Management of Bermuda Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bermuda Commercial Bank Limited, specializing in offshore fund administration and exempt company management.

Prior to moving to Bermuda, Ede was a lending officer in the Energies Division of Chemical Bank, New York.

Brian Desmond is Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Executive Vice President and Head of Fund Services at the Horseshoe Group (the Group).

As CSO, with the support of Horseshoe’s executive management team, Brian is responsible for developing and executing Horseshoe’s corporate strategic initiatives. Brian also leads the Group’s fund administration company, Horseshoe Fund Services Ltd. (HFSL) and is responsible for operations, product development, technology, and overall operations strategy.

Brian was one of the principal founders, a director and COO/CFO of HFSL (formally IKONIC Fund Services Ltd) which was acquired by the Group in 2016. HFSL product offering specializes in hedge funds, fund of hedge funds, private equity funds and ILS funds.

Prior to setting up HFSL, Brian was the Bermuda Country Head at Citigroup Fund Services (Bermuda) Ltd. where he gained extensive experience in fund administration and was responsible for overseeing the fund administration for global clients. He was also responsible for managing all new client implementations and for establishing standards, controls and procedures for all North American operations.

Prior to joining Citigroup, Brian worked as an audit senior in the investment group of Ernst & Young.

Jane was one of the principal founders, an executive director and the Associate Director of IKONIC Fund Services Ltd. (IFSL), now Horseshoe Fund Services Ltd. Jane has over twenty years of experience in the offshore funds industry and was responsible for managing all aspects of administration for the IFSL office, supporting Operations by assisting with the Registrar and Transfer Agency functions and processes including anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing due diligence as well acting as the Company’s Reporting and Compliance Officers. Prior to joining IFSL, Jane worked for Citigroup Fund Services (Bermuda) Ltd. (formerly Forum Fund Services Ltd.) for ten years initially as Head of Shareholder Services and subsequently as Head of Implementation responsible for managing all new client implementations.

Jane started her career with BCB Fund Services Limited (formerly International Corporate Management of Bermuda Limited (BCB)), which was at one time a wholly owned subsidiary of Bermuda Commercial Bank Limited before the Bank exited that business. BCB specialized in offshore fund administration and exempt company management. During her tenure at BCB, Jane was promoted to Manager of the Shareholder Services Department and was responsible for overseeing the provision of registrar and transfer agency services to ICMOB’s fund clients.

Current Responsibilities

Paula is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day legal affairs of Horseshoe Group, including, but not limited to, providing legal advice on transactional, operational, regulatory and compliance related matters for the Bermuda, Cayman and Dublin offices.

Paula has over 18 years’ experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry and fund administration. She has a demonstrated track record and expertise in:

  • Managing Board and Committee meetings for all Bermuda administered companies

Prior to ACE, Paula was Senior Legal Counsel, Head of Compliance, Global Fund Services with Bank of Bermuda Limited, then HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited. During that time, she had the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Managed corporate and transactional legal requirements in connection with acceptance of new fund business
  • Responsible for ensuring statutory, regulatory and corporate governance compliance for a multi-billion dollar portfolio of funds

Rodney joined IKONIC Fund Services Ltd., now Horseshoe Fund Services Ltd. (HFSL), in September 2007. Prior to joining IFSL, Rodney was a Senior Business Analyst with Citigroup Fund Services (Bermuda) Ltd and managed the operations support group for two years. Prior to Citigroup, Rodney worked as an Audit Senior in the in the Transaction Services and Risk Advisory Services Group and prior to that in the Investments Audit Group at Ernst & Young, Bermuda. Rodney qualified as a chartered accountant, completing his traineeship at Grant Thornton in Cape Town, South Africa.

Rodney is responsible for developing and implementing new products and services including any specialized client reporting requirements. He also co-ordinates the user acceptance testing of all new system releases, and maintains and works to improve the processes and procedures as they relate to systems and automation. Rodney also advises our operations teams on complex fund conversions onto our systems as well as new fund implementations. Rodney also provides advice on technical accounting issues.

Rodney is also responsible for Horseshoe’s IT infrastructure and operations support, which includes third-party vendor management, software and hardware procurement and the overall control process surrounding the use of the IT infrastructure.

Current Responsibilities

Kathy is responsible for pricing and reserving activities of the Horseshoe Group of companies. She is the primary contact for our portfolio of clients and participates in consulting activities such as reserving and capital adequacy certification, pricing and underwriting reviews, support clients’ internal audit and enterprise risk management functions, and financial evaluations such as capital modeling analysis.

Experience

Kathy has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance market as a qualified P&C actuary. She has a demonstrated track record and expertise in:

Prior to joining the Horseshoe Group, Ms. Garrigan spent a year consulting for a US based hedge fund keen to enter the reinsurance space. Prior to that she spent 10+ years at Endurance Specialty Holdings in both actuarial and underwriting roles spanning both reinsurance and insurance. She has hired and led teams of pricing actuaries including Endurance Reinsurance’s founding US team and Endurance’s US insurance team. She has built pricing tools, fully parameterized them and trained others on their use.

While Ms. Garrigan has experience across nearly all lines of insurance and reinsurance business, her focus has been on casualty, specialty and professional lines. Her property experience spans insurance, quota share, and per risk opportunities.

Kathy’s versatile skill set includes having worked in both front line and corporate underwriting capacities. She has implemented enterprise risk management initiatives including the consistent calculation of company-wide rate changes, performing company-wide profitability studies, and leading casualty aggregation efforts.

Scott Burns joined IKONIC Fund Services Ltd., now Horseshoe Fund Services Ltd., as Senior Vice President – Private Equity in November 2012 and is responsible for managing the private equity fund administration operations and assisting with product and business development efforts.

Prior to joining IKONIC, Scott served as Head of JP Morgan Private Equity & Real Estate Services (JPM Bermuda) and legal entity director. Before closing its offices in November, 2012, JPM Bermuda was a fund administration company established and licensed in Bermuda in 2007 providing comprehensive private equity fund administration services to investment managers with both offshore and onshore funds and other cross border structures.

Scott has over 20 years of fund industry experience having previously worked as Head of Private Equity Fund Services for Schroders Bermuda, which was purchased by JPM Bermuda in 2010. Scott joined Schroders Bermuda in 1996 where he gained extensive experience in fund administration and was responsible for overseeing the fund accounting, investor services, audit and Net Asset Value preparation for global clients. He was also responsible for managing all new client implementations from an operational perspective and for establishing standards, controls and procedures for the Bermuda operations.

Prior to joining Schroders Bermuda, Scott worked as tax senior in the investment group of KPMG.

Yulanda is the Head of Horseshoe’s transformer Horseshoe Re Limited where she is responsible for the day to day management of collateralized reinsurance transactions as well as client servicing.

Experience

Yulanda has over 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, including captive management and ILS. She has a demonstrated track record and expertise in:

Mike joined IKONIC Fund Services USA, Inc. (IFSL), now Horseshoe Fund Services USA, Inc., in September 2012. Prior to IFSL, Mike worked at Citi Hedge Fund Services (Citi) where he was a Senior Vice President managing a business unit providing investor services for over 50 hedge fund clients with combined net assets in excess of $20 billion.

At Citi, Mike managed up to 35 staff and was responsible for the investor services relationships of many large and diverse clients, as well as managing and coordinating projects that included fund launches, system development and system conversions. Prior to his 12 years at Citi, Mike’s accounting career began with State Street Corporation, a mutual funds administrator located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Lynniece joined IKONIC Fund Services Ltd., in July 2008, (now Horseshoe Fund Services Ltd., which was acquired in 2016 by the Horseshoe Group) and is responsible for managing the company’s Corporate Services department which is dedicated to the provision of corporate secretarial and regulatory compliance services to funds, companies, partnerships and unit trusts domiciled in Bermuda, Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands. Lynniece has been instrumental in building the infrastructure of the department including managing ViewPoint, the Company’s corporate database system. At the same time, Lynniece has her own extremely active portfolio of clients which largely involve infrastructure funds and insurance-linked securities (ILS) funds.

Lynniece has extensive corporate services knowledge and experience having previously worked at the Bank of Bermuda Limited (a member of the HSBC group), for 21 years where she earned successive promotions in HSBC Securities Services’ Management Services department to the position of Deputy Manager. She was responsible for managing a team of administrators who provided corporate governance and administrative services to a wide range of Bermuda, Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands investment vehicles to which she was the named Company Secretary.

Edith G. Conyers (Ede) was one of the principal founders, a director and formerly Chief Executive Officer of IKONIC Fund Services Ltd. (IFSL), now Horseshoe Fund Services, a specialist fund administration company, established and licensed in Bermuda in 2007.

Until May 2007, Ede was General Manager of Citigroup Fund Services (Bermuda) Ltd. (formerly Forum Fund Services Ltd.) and was an integral part of establishing that company in September 1997 with assets under administration growing to approximately $30 billion. Prior to joining IKONIC, Scott served as Head of JP Morgan Private Equity & Real Estate Services (JPM Bermuda) and legal entity director. Before closing its offices in November, 2012, JPM Bermuda was a fund administration company established and licensed in Bermuda in 2007 providing comprehensive private equity fund administration services to investment managers with both offshore and onshore funds and other cross border structures.

Prior to joining the Horseshoe Group, he worked for a captive management company where he was responsible for the management of a portfolio of captive insurance companies. His duties included the following:

  • Preparation of and review of financial statements for various types of insurance companies, including, single parent captives and group captives
  • Monitor compliance with Companies and Insurance Act
  • Maintain Letters of Credit
  • Oversee the annual audits of each company
  • Insurance policy review and issuance
  • Claims handling
  • Arrange Board and Annual general meetings and presentation of reports to Board of Directors
  • Liaison with brokers, underwriters, lawyers and bank representatives
  • Liaise with the Bermuda Monetary Authority
  • Novation of Policies to other Captive Insurance Companies
  • Run off administration, commutation of liabilities and deregistration
